YAY! my first foray into the world of Circuit
Bending... After reading about it on Anti
Theory and on the EM411.com
site i thought i would give it a burl. I actually had the idea
a while ago without even knowing what circuit bending was, but
didn't expect the results to be as cool as i got.
I purchased the Chicken Drum from a cheap shop
up the road for $6.99 AUD. It had 5 buttons, 4 which had pre-set
drum sounds and one which played a demo. When playing the demo
if you hit the any of the other four buttons again it would trigger
a different demo.
I fooled around inside without knowing what i
was doing but using the two screwdriver technique from Anti Theory,
which produced some pretty crazy sounds. I soldered on some wires
and then the switches so i could move between the modes ( and
gave me some more )..
I ended up with the normal sounds when both switches
were turned off, when left switch was turned on the samples seemed
to slow right down, while the number 3 sample was in super fast
forward. When the right switch was turned on i got some nasty
( but chunky ) fuzz which sounded great with the tunes. When both
switches were turned on the sounds got completely fucked over,
for some reason pressing the number 3 button gave me this great
distorted scream that was pressure sensitive, ( press it harder
and the pitch went higher ).
